10th Anniversary Concert - 3 December
2006
Our final concert at St Andrew's for 2006 was enjoyed
by an enthusiastic audience. Highlights of the choir's
history were briefly recounted by choir chairman Ian Maurer in the hall
afterwards, amidst balloons, memorabilia displays and a birthday cake!
We look forward to the next 10 years!

Carols in the Park - 2 December 2006
A small group of our choristers sang at this, the
second annual Christmas Carols in Gregory Park, Rosalie. Sponsored by
Brisbane City Council and organised by the local Rotary club, this event
not only provided
an enjoyable evening for the many people who attended, but also provided
help for less fortunate members
of the community. Thanks to John C.E. D'Alton for the photo.
Tour to Western Australia -
September/October 2008
Having had such a great time in Lismore, the travel
bug has bitten and we are planning to head off
to Perth and southwest WA, one of the most beautiful parts of Australia,
performing concerts, seeing the sights and sampling the local
delicacies, including some of the bottled variety.
There will be places available on the tour for new members who join us
in 2007or 2008, so if you have
been thinking of coming along for an audition, there has never been a
better time!
Lismore Weekend - 23/24 September
2006
We spent a very enjoyable weekend at Lismore, seeing
some of the sights, sampling the
locally grown coffee, performing at a morning service and finally
presenting our afternoon
concert in the beautiful St Carthage's Cathedral.
The Mystery of LOVE - Concert 17
September 2006

An enthusiastic audience was delighted by the performances of two choirs
at our recent concert.
Brisbane Concert Choir was joined by guest choir Grammar
Singers, a combined ensemble
from Brisbane Grammar and Brisbane Girls Grammar schools.
After presenting their separate programs, the two groups combined to
perform the sonorous
setting of O Magnum Mysterium by Morton Lauridsen.
Brisbane Concert Choir is happy to continue its association with
Brisbane Grammar School
later in the year when we are joined by their Chamber Choir to perform
John Rutter's Mass
of the Children.
Gounod Messe Solennelle 'from scratch'
- 15 July 2006
We had a great time staging our 4th Annual Come
and Sing 'from scratch' event.
With about 130 singers, 40 orchestral players in the Sinfonia of St
Andrew's,
soloists Anita Parakh-Morgan, Jack Parakh-Morgan, and Michael Strasser,
musical director Debra Shearer-Dirié, and a band of helpers in the
kitchen,
we worked our way through Gounod's Mass for St Cecilia and a large
amount
of delicious food on the way to an exciting performance in the evening.
While not quite as large an event as Haydn's
Nelson Mass last year, it was
nevertheless still a very successful day. One benefit of being in a
smaller group
was that we organisers got to talk to more of our guests than usual.
We look forward to staging Beethoven's Mass
in C in 2007 as our 5th such event.

Mozart & Miserere Concert -
21 May 2006
Our first concert for the year was enjoyed by an
audience which almost filled St Andrew's. We
were excited to stage the only choral event in the 4MBS Festival of
Classics 2006, a year which
celebrates the 250th anniversary of W. A. Mozart's birth.
The concert was recorded by 4MBS for broadcast at a later date (to be
advised - watch this space).
The concert also continued our association with
Opera Queensland's Young Artist Program, with
soloists Elizabeth McBride, Kylie Bailey, Virgilio Marino and Brett
Carter in fine form, performing
in large and small works by Mozart.
Recording and Broadcast for
|
|
Although Brisbane Concert Choir is based at St
Andrew's Uniting Church, we hardly ever sing
hymns as part of our normal repertoire. However we more than made up for
this on Sunday 26th
March 2006 by rehearsing and performing non-stop hymns from 4 till 6pm.
The 4MBS recording
team was there to capture the result for broadcast on Sunday 30th
April at 8.15am, with a
repeat at 6.30pm.
Our thanks to Howard Ainsworth and the recording crew, to Steven Nisbet,
organist at St Andrew's
for accompanying us and also supplying his original descants to a number
of the hymns. A special
thanks also to Beatriz Skippen and the members of the Spanish
congregation for graciously making
the church available to us at very short notice.
