From 1.00pm Saturday, 17th July 2010
St Andrew's Uniting Church, cnr Creek & Ann Street, Brisbane             to view and print PDF files. It's free!

Following the success of our previous 'from scratch' workshop/performances - Mozart Requiem (2003), Fauré Requiem (2004), Haydn Nelson Mass (2005), Gounod Messe Solennelle (2006), Beethoven Mass in C (2007), Brahms German
Requiem
(2008) and Haydn's Mass in Time of War in 2009, Brisbane Concert Choir is pleased to invite singers from South
East Queensland and beyond to take part in a rehearsal and performance of Carl Orff's Carmina Burana. For further details please view and print our Flyer and Registration Form.

‘From Scratch’ performances are usually done in one day. A popular work is rehearsed and performed together with the hosting choir, accompanied by organ. We, however, have a professional orchestra, soloists and conductor, Debra Shearer-Dirié. All singers are welcome. You don’t have to belong to a choir to take part. In fact, it’s a great way for ‘shower-only' singers to take it to the next level. It’s not too difficult, and it’s fun. Take the plunge!

For an all inclusive price of $45  (or High School Student Special Price $30), you receive a copy of the music to keep, afternoon tea, dinner, and the opportunity to take part in a performance of this wonderful work. For an additional fee of $5,  we will post the music out to you in advance together with a rehearsal CD if you need one, so that you can do a little private practice on it, and perhaps allow you to get even more enjoyment from the day. Because there will be many singers present who have performed the work before, you don't have to be perfect. If you make a few mistakes, no one will know. The important thing is to have fun and help to make it an event to be remembered.

We will also have two optional rehearsals before the day. Because Carmina Burana is a large work we are offering registered singers the opportunity to rehearse with Debra Shearer-Dirié at two of Brisbane Concert Choir's regular rehearsals dedicated to this music. The dates are 29 June and 13 July. In order to help us to raise money for our 2011 tour to Italy, we will be charging $15 for attendance at each of these rehearsals (or both for $25). (We offered one such extra rehearsal opportunity in 2008 and it was heavily attended, so book early).

There will be seats available for supporters to be in the audience for the performance only for $15.00.

Because of the popularity of this work, we anticipate that all of the available places will be taken up before bookings close. Therefore, if you wish to sing with us, it is essential to book in advance to reserve your seat. We are limited, by our venue and by our catering facilities, to a fixed number of participants. When we reach this number we will reluctantly have to decline further acceptances.

How to Book

Bookings can be made in a number of ways:

  • by printing out and completing the Registration Form and posting it to the address below with Direct Deposit payment details or a cheque.
  • by phoning 3369 4866 and providing the same details.
  • by sending an email to [email protected] with these details.

If you took part in previous events, please let us know when you book.
Choir groups may prefer to register and pay as a group in order to save costs on mailing out music. However, we still need a registration form filled out by each participant, with the choir name on top of the form. Please phone or email for details.

Cost

Registration   $45.00  (High School Student Special Price  $30.00)
Postage          $5.00  (if you want music/rehearsal CD posted out in advance)
Please Note: We have had to increase our prices for Carmina Burana as the work is still in copyright. As a result we have to pay for hire of orchestral parts plus a royalty fee for the performance. We also have to purchase the choral copies from a music publisher instead of printing them ourselves from PDF copies. Finally, the choral copies are too large for the post office to carry as a letter and so have to go at the more expensive parcel rates. We have only increased our price by an amount sufficient to cover these extra costs.

Payment

Payment can be made in two ways:

  • Electronic payment by Direct Deposit to our bank account - details below. (We regret that we are not able to accept payment by credit card).
  • By posting a cheque. Please make cheques payable to Brisbane Concert Choir, and post to Brisbane Concert Choir, 29 Northam Avenue, Bardon  QLD  4065. We must receive your cheque by Friday, 9th July at the latest.
