Feedback from Guest Singers
Fauré Requiem ‘from scratch’
14th August 2004

Congratulations on hosting such a superb event, and many thanks to your

organizing team.

I had a wonderful time and appreciated the opportunity to sing the Fauré Requiem,

which I had not done before.

Many thanks,
Delma S.

I had a LOVELY day on Saturday, have told all my singing friends, and will
certainly be there next year.  Rita was a breath of fresh air, wonderful to
work with.

I can't think of any improvements you could make - it was all so organised,
and running on time, too.  People had obviously put in a lot of thought and
effort.

Thank you for the opportunity to take part again in this beautiful work.

Glenda W. (Holy Trinity church choir, Fortitude Valley)

Thoroughly enjoyed the day despite the challenge of a cold. I haven't
sung in a choir for years and unfortunately just can't fit in the
commitment at present.

Thanks again for a wonderful experience.

You did a fantastic job on Saturday and we had a great time.  Looking
forward to next year!

Thanks for all the hard work from yourself and everyone else that made the
Fauré Requiem from scratch so enjoyable. Rita was a delight. The soup was
delicious!

It was wonderful to be part of the choir on Saturday.

What an encouraging and skilled conductor, glorious music...so fitting to be sung
in our lovely church building; and to top it off fine food well prepared and courteously  served.

Thanks so much for the opportunity...next time I will win the raffle too!

It was an extremely well organised event…congratulations to you and to your team

A quick note of thanks to you and your fellow organisers for the wonderful experience of singing

Faure's Requiem last Sat.  The whole day was a great success.  The conductor, Rita, was superb,

the music great, and the food (especially the soup!) was excellent.  Very well organised.

Thanks again.

Thanks for all you did for us in organising the Fauré. It was a good day for us (including the potato

and leek soup)!  Also good to catch up with some old friends and meet new people as well as the

actual sing. Hopefully we can experience something similar next year.

Thanks again for all you did.

Regards,   Judy N.

I really enjoyed the Faure from Scratch Saturday.  Rita did a fantastic job.

Thanks.  Today was great.

Thank you very much, and the Brisbane Concert Choir,  for the
opportunity to sing in the wonderful performance yesterday.
It was a fantastic and memorable experience.

My congratulations also for the fact that it seemed to go without a
hitch - well from the perspective of one of the singers anyway. I was not made
aware of any hiccups.

Plenty of great singing, good company, lots of food - what more could
you ask for?

My congratulations to Rita. She is wonderful - so much energy, humour
and humility.

with best wishes
Peter B. (Brisbane Chorale)

Thank you for your emails concerning Fauré...from Scratch.  My friends
and I (from Redcliffe City Choir) thoroughly enjoyed the experience and
were impressed with Rita's conducting and her sense of humour.  (The
afternoon tea and dinner were delicious - your time in the kitchen was
definitely not wasted!)

We look forward to the Mozart Concert.

Regards
Sandra Y.

Thanks for all the feedback.    I thoroughly enjoyed myself and look
forward to the next  - apart from the music, Rita is so dynamic and this
added an extra learning and pleasure to the experience.
Cheers Jill

Many thanks for the opportunity to participate in such a great event, it
really was fantastic.
Looking forward to the next one!

I thought last Saturday was a "blockbuster".  I thoroughly enjoyed the
entire afternoon.  Rita has an amazing amount of energy and for such a large
group she managed to give so much.

The afternoon moved along very smoothly and was well planned, but I guess
that was a result of a lot of hard work by the Brisbane Concert Choir.

Excellent event and well done!

Regards
Tony

Thanks for your message and for running the Fauré from Scratch. It
was a great experience!

Cheers,

Thanks for your email. May I say how much I enjoyed participating in
Fauré's Requiem from Scratch. Congratulations on marvellous
organisation, and the Leek and potato soup. Delicious. I would love to
participate next year. Rita was a joy to work with. There were 4 members
from the Wynnum Choral Society.

Jon H.

Thank you for your email and for a most wonderful sing on Saturday.  I dragged
myself out of a sickbed to come.  Thank you for your kind mention after the performance

 - I returned Rita's thumbs-up and waved to you both!

The name of the choir we are in is Wynnum Choral Society and we all look forward to
next year.  Here are some suggestions for future From Scratch events as invited on
our hand-out:

Mozart - any of the Masses
Haydn - Stabat Mater, Nelson Mass
Bach - Mass in B minor, Jesu Meine Freude or any of the wholly/mostly choral
cantatas
Brahms - Es ist das Heil uns kommen her
Handel - Coronation Anthems, Chandos Anthems

Many thanks. Congratulations to all the hardworking cooks, organizers, the wonderful
musicians in the St Andrews Sinfonia, and to Rita who is just marvellous to sing for!

Yours in Music,    Rita M.  :-)

I would like to congratulate you and everyone else involved in last Saturday's performance

of Fauré's Requiem.  I thoroughly enjoyed taking part and am glad you suggested that I sing

soprano. It was not too taxing!

Thankyou for all the hard work you and your team must have put in to make the event run so

smoothly.  I especially enjoyed Rita's conducting.  She made singing such fun and her whole

attitude was so positive that it made one want to give the best performance!

Delicious food too!

I look forward to next year with anticipation!

With Best Wishes,

Sarah C.

What a great response to have 150 singers.  It was so exciting for me to be part of such a big

event, and to have an orchestra and soloists just made it so special.  The breaks were also

most enjoyable with delicious food and interesting people to meet.

Thanks once again for a really great experience.

Warm regards

Ann W.    from Centenary (Jindalee) Community Choir and the Nostalgia Singers of Guides Queensland

It was just a totally marvellous experience on Saturday from start to
finish.  I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I thought the organisation of every
aspect was terrific.  Congratulations to you and all the team!

Rita was superb to work with - one of the very best choral conductors I have
ever struck - and that is saying something!  The work itself is so very
satisfying for the singers and it was a joy to work with such a high quality
orchestra.

I will most certainly be lining up next year to take part and so will the
soprano who sat next to me, Sarah, from the Gold Coast.

The 3 audience members I know who came were all extremely impressed and
thoroughly enjoyed the performance.

Keep up the fine work!

Sincerely,

Annette H.    from the choir of Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Fortitude Valley

Thanks for taking the time to email everyone.  I'm sure we all appreciated
your enthusiastic approach to the "from scratch" experience very much
indeed.  I most certainly did.  Rita also is just so inspirational.

I had a great time although was a little out of my depth having never done
anything quite like that before.  Yes I used to sing in the local church
choir many years ago but that was very different to the experience of
Saturday.  Maybe next time you should warn prospective choristers that one
does actually have to know how to read music to do this!! Luckily, also many
years ago, I used to play the piano so was able to follow and soon got the
hang of things again except that as I was singing with the altos I found
that finding the right note to start off on was a little difficult.  Thank
heavens for the more experienced altos around me who kept me on the right
track.  I'm sure with more practice, like a week instead of 5 hours, I'd
have coped better!!

Please keep me on your mailing/emailing list however as I am hooked and
would love to attend more concerts, from scratches and whatever else you can
cook up.

Keep up the good work and thanks for a wonderful experience.  Faure's
Requiem is one of my most favourite pieces and to be a part of it was just
so uplifting.  I know now how it must feel to be in heaven singing with the
angels.

Kind regards

Diana

Thank you for inviting me to sing in the Faure Requiem.  I enjoyed it
immensely as I did singing the Mozart last year.  The only slight problem I
had was that the print on the photocopies was fairly faint, and, as I am
verging on needing reading glasses, I found that it was hard to read the
notes and especially the words as I was not familiar with them.  Otherwise
congratulations for a job well done.

The other thing I would like is if you could email me the details of Rita
Paczian.  I thought she was absolutely excellent both for the choir and for
the orchestra.  I sing with Redland Rhapsody, a Sweet Adeline Barbershop
Chorus, and the exercises and way of singing she was advocating would suit
us.  I am thinking she would be a very good vocal coach.  I know she lives
at Mooloo near Gympie but maybe she travels around conducting etc.  Thank
you for your trouble.

Joann B.

Many thanks for your email and the news contained within.

I belong to the choir at Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Fortitude Valley - past

member of Brisbane Chorale, State & Municipal, Bach, Musica Antiqua, St Stephens

and gregorian chant group, St Cecilia Chorale- over a period of 25 years or there abouts.

I thought the whole afternoon/evening was wonderful - fantastic conductor, great

organization, wonderful soloists, terrific orchestra  (I seem to remember quite a few

of the players being in the Qld Syphony Orchestra) inspiriing work to sing, good food

etc  - what more could one happy chorister desire!  Perhaps to do it again - with another

great work - eg Brahms German Requiem, a Haydn work, or Monterverdi Vespers! - some

time real soon!

Thanks for all your hard work and the merry band of helpers who did themselves proud

on a wonderfully enjoyable day - I left feeling like my feet were not touching the ground

I will greatly appreciate being kept on your email distribution list, should that be possible.

Regards

Tony E.
