Asked Questions If I have to drive, where can I park? Street parking is difficult to find close to St Andrew's Uniting Church on a Saturday. Both Ann and Turbot Streets become clearways from 4.00 to 7.00pm, Saturdays included. Therefore parking in an off-street car park is recommended, although not all commercial car parks are open at weekends. Cost is from $7 upwards at weekends. If you are attending with friends, you might like to consider car pooling. What should I bring? Music (unless you have elected to collect it on the day), water bottle, pencil, eraser, an easily identifiable flat cushion (optional) if the thought of sitting on a church pew for several hours does not appeal, a sense of humour and a modicum of patience just in case we have the odd glitch. What should I NOT bring? Valuables, handbags, purses which you cannot carry on your person at all times. It is an unfortunate fact of life that an event such as this attracts people who make a living by coming in uninvited and relieving people of their valuables whenever they are left unattended. The venue cannot be made secure while we are all there, for reasons of fire safety. Neither St Andrew's Uniting Church nor Brisbane Concert Choir can take any responsibility for loss of personal effects. What should I wear? There are no rules, so there is no need to dress up unless you wish to. Some Brisbane Concert Choir members for instance will be wearing their casual touring uniform so that they are readily identifiable. We would suggest that people wear smart casual. Comfortable footwear is definitely recommended. There will be time to change into performance attire during dinner for those who wish to do so. Choristers may wish to wear their choir's performance uniform for the evening, but there will be plenty of people who perform in what they rehearsed in. Audience members are paying only $5 for a scratch performance, so they won't expect everyone to be dressed as for a normal concert. What should I NOT wear? Strong perfume (it adversely affects quite a few people) or jangling jewellery (we will provide the percussion section in the orchestra).
How do I print the Registration Form
(pdf)? Just click on this
link and the Registration Form should open in Acrobat Reader, from
where you can make one or more high quality prints. If you don't
normally use PDF files, you will first need to download the free Acrobat
Reader program from the Adobe web site. You can do so now by clicking
here. It
only takes a few minutes, and will be useful on many other web sites, as
the PDF format is very widely used. Will the lighting be better than it was in 2004? Yes! We heard your feedback and have plans in hand to improve the lighting inside the church. Whether this takes the form of temporary flood lights on stands or improved overhead lighting in the church remains to be decided, but we are definitely making it brighter this year. We also have better quality printed music this year, so it should be easier to read. However, because of the dark interior surfaces in the church, the light level will probably still not be as bright as it is under a reading lamp at home. So, if you wear spectacles, it would be wise to make sure that your prescription is up to date before July. Reading music is a more challenging task than reading a book. Can I sing from a copy of the music which I already own? If you already have a copy of the music, you may choose to sing from that copy if you really, really want to. Unfortunately, there is no reduction in price, as we need to be able to provide a copy for you on the day if your edition does not work out. (It makes life difficult for everyone, and especially the conductor, when trying to work from multiple editions, which is why we go to the trouble of printing one specially. Bar numbers and page numbers frequently do not coincide, even if the notes are identical. A typical problem is that some editions divide or combine the movements differently and restart the bar numbering in different places). The edition which we are using is published by the Choral Public Domain Library at www.cpdl.org , and has been printed and bound for ease of use. You might like to verify that your edition matches the one we will be using in order to avoid frustration. However, the print quality this year is much better than for the Fauré, so there is really no advantage in using a different edition. For further information on the day, just ask anyone with a Brisbane Concert Choir name tag and they will be glad to assist.
